The AER today has released a Consultation Notice for its first trial waiver The Regulatory Sandboxing trial waiver function allows the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) to grant a time limited trial waiver for eligible trial projects, exempting an innovator from having to comply with specified rules for a period of time to allow a trial to proceed. The Victorian Regulatory Sandboxing trial waiver function allows Essential Services Commission (ESC) to issue trial waivers providing time limited relief from Victorian energy frameworks. Updates 22 Dec 2022 Trial Legislation In Force: Applications And Pre-Meetings Welcome - 22 December 2022 With the passing of legislation and making of rules enabling trials providing relief from national energy frameworks, the Australian Energy Regulator The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) regulates electricity networks and covered gas pipelines in all jurisdictions except Western Australia. The AER sets the amount of revenue that network businesses can recover from customers for using these networks. The AER also enforces the laws for the National Electricity Market (NEM) and spot gas markets in southern and eastern Australia, as well as monitoring and reporting on the conduct of market participants and the effectiveness of competition. (AER) and the Australian Energy Market Commission The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) is an independent statutory body that works for Australia's future productivity and living standards by contributing to a decarbonising, affordable and reliable energy system for consumers. The AEMC makes and amends the National Electricity Rules (NER), the National Gas Rules (NGR), and the National Energy Retail Rules (NERR), and manages the rule change process. The AEMC does this in accordance with the national energy objectives, the central focus of which is the long-term interests of consumers. They also provide market development advice to governments. (AEMC) are now accepting applications for trial waivers and trial rule changes respectively. Updates 17 Nov 2022 Trials legislation passes South Australian Upper House - 18 November 2022 Legislation to allow the Energy Innovation Toolkit to offer trial proponents time-limited regulatory relief through trial waivers and trial rule changes has passed through the upper house of South Australian Parliament. Updates 24 Oct 2022 Trials legislation passes SA House of Assembly On 18 October 2022, the legislation enabling the provision of trial waivers by the AER and trial rule changes by the AEMC passed the House of Assembly and is now awaiting passage through the Legislative Council. Updates 17 Oct 2022 Energy Innovation Toolkit at the All-Energy Australia Conference next week The Energy Innovation Toolkit will be at this year's All-Energy Australia Conference on October 26th and 27th in Melbourne. This event is free to attend and will have a great variety of energy innovators, market participants, government agencies and peak bodies in attendance to chat to.
