Current trials

The AER, through the Energy Innovation Toolkit, has granted VIOTAS and Enel X trial waivers from clause 2.3.6(m)(1)(i) of the National Electricity Rules for a period of up to 5 years. These trials will test participation of sites with multiple connection points in the Wholesale Demand Response Mechanism (WDRM). The waivers allow both VIOTAS and Enel X to trial participation of up to 10 sites each, using existing AEMO baselining and settlement arrangements, to generate evidence on how these sites can operate effectively within the wholesale market. 

The AER, through the Energy Innovation Toolkit, has granted Ausgrid a trial waiver from ring-fencing obligations (clause 6.17.1) of the National Electricity Rules for a period of 5 years to enable it to conduct a Community Power Network trial at Two Trial Sites. This waiver allows Ausgrid to own and operate 130MWh of battery assets. It will also enable Ausgrid to install up to 70MW of solar generation assets as a supplier of last resort if the competitive market is unable to provide this. 

The AER, through the Energy Innovation Toolkit, has granted PLUS ES a trial waiver in relation to clauses 7.3.1(b)(2) and 7.8.3(a) of the National Electricity Rules to allow for the installation and operation for up to 1,000 electric vehicle chargers, for up to 5 years.
