PLUS ES trial waiver application

The AER is currently considering a trial waiver application from PLUS ES. Consultation on this trial closed 22 November 2024. 

Recently the AER released a Consultation Notice seeking views on PLUS ES's trial waiver application. PLUS ES is seeking a waiver from provisions of the National Electricity Rules to allow it to install EV chargers with in-built metering installations that do not meet all the requirements of the Metrology Procedure to comply with relevant Australian Standards for outdoor metering installations. 

Below are the Consultation Notice, Consultation Addendum and the submissions received on the waiver application. The AER is considering these responses and a final decision on the application will be made shortly.

Point for clarification

The EIT team recently received a request for clarification of the PUMS (permanently unmetered supply) label on the diagrams in Attachment B of the consultation notice. According to the trial proponent, PLUS ES, the PUMS label signifies that an enclosure resembling a PUMS is being used for the installation of the EV charger. However, since there is a metered supply via a type 4 pattern approved meter contained inside the charger box, the installation itself is not actually a PUMS.
